Dawgs Get Upset Win at Talladega
Fisk played six players in the win over GCAC Co-leader.
TALLADEGA, AL. – After losing by 27 points on Saturday, Fisk University Bulldog Men's Head Basketball Coach Kenny Anderson changed his team's practice time to 6 a.m. The early morning wake-up seemed to give his players the motivation they needed as they defeated one of the top Gulf Coast Athletic Conference teams, the Talladega College Tornadoes (17-4, 7-2 GCAC) 62-58 in GCAC play from Talladega.
"Not much was said on the bus ride back from Philander on Saturday," said Anderson. "I told them we were going to go back to early morning practices so they could focus more. We had three of our best practices this week. The thing about our conference is that anyone can beat you. That came in undefeated this week, now they have two losses. That's how the GCAC is."
Though he was only missing point guard Allen Powell, Anderson only played six players in the game, with his starting five playing every minute of the first half. Freshman Mitchel Seay played eight second-half minutes and that was it from the bench.
Sophomore Blake Goodman scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half. His three-point field goal with 51 seconds left gave the Bulldogs a six-point lead, virtually icing away the game. Senior Jayden Lockett was also big in the second half, scoring 15 of his 19 points. The duo was joined by Tyon Thompson (12 points) to score all the Fisk second-half points.
The taller Tornadoes held a 36-22 advantage in rebounds, but Fisk only committed seven turnovers and forced 17 to take advantage of a 20-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Bulldog (9-11, 6-5 GCAC) win makes things interesting in the GCAC as we head to the final month of regular season play. Fisk will get another shot at Talladega on Saturday, February 10 in Nashville.

The Bulldogs will look to even up their four-game road trip when they play Oakwood University at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
