Benton-Hamilton Scores 29 in Dawg Road Win
Kailon Benton-Hamilton Leads Bulldogs Past Simmons College, Kaleb Jeffries Adds 15 as Fisk Snaps Losing Streak
LOUISVILLE, KY. — Kailon Benton-Hamilton came off the bench and delivered a sensational performance, scoring 29 points to power the Fisk University Bulldogs to a 75-58 victory over the Simmons College Falcons in nonconference action. Freshman Kaleb Jeffries chipped in with 15 points, helping Fisk snap a three-game losing streak and regain momentum as postseason play approaches.
"We recognized the importance of securing a victory, and this setting was positive for our team," stated Fisk head coach Jeremiah Crutcher. "We established an early lead, although Simmons presented significant challenges in the second half. Kailon is among the top shooters nationally, and once he finds his rhythm, he becomes a considerable threat. Despite this win, we acknowledge there is still much progress to be made before the postseason."
After surrendering the game's first two points, the Bulldogs responded with a commanding 9-0 run and never looked back. Benton-Hamilton erupted in the first half, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range for 16 points, fueling Fisk to a 38-20 halftime lead. The Falcons mounted several comeback attempts in the second half, but the Bulldogs answered every run, keeping Simmons at bay and never allowing the deficit to shrink below 14 points.
Mark Cooper, ranked fourth in the nation in assists, orchestrated the offense with 11 helpers, setting up teammates and keeping Fisk's attack balanced. Simeon Williams anchored the interior with 11 rebounds, providing crucial second-chance opportunities and defensive stops. The Bulldogs' collective effort ensured Simmons could not threaten their lead, and Benton-Hamilton's scoring was the difference-maker throughout.
With the win, Fisk returns to conference play to finish the regular season. The Bulldogs will host Oakwood University on Saturday, followed by a home matchup against Wilberforce University on Monday. They'll wrap up the season with a road game at Rust College, eager to build on their renewed momentum and push for postseason success.
