Lady Bulldogs Open Their Season with Two Games in the Chamber of Commerce Classic
Top-ranked Campbellsville and homestanding Bethel will be tough tests to start the season.
McKenzie, Tenn.— The new season is here, and the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs are primed and ready for it. Today, they will take the two-and-a-half-hour trek west on I-40 to McKenzie, Tennessee, for the Chamber of Commerce Classic. Tonight, they will match up against host Bethel (TN.) University at 7:30 p.m. (CST) and then #1 Campbellsville (KY) University on Friday at noon.
"We have been beating up each other a lot, so it will be good to see some other color jerseys to go against," said Fisk head coach Victoria Crawford. "Both teams have winning traditions, so it will be good to see how we fair."
Bethel has played two games this season, losing to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy 77-69 and to Fisk's GCAC foe Philander Smith 70-62. Last season, Bethel had an 8-5 record at home. Campbellsville comes into the classic as the top-ranked team in the NAIA.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to Bethel in their previous meeting in 2018, 93-58. Fisk has never beaten Campbellsville in six meetings. This will be their first match-up since 2019.
Players to Watch:
Fisk: Freshmen duo Jordyn Bailey and Janiesse Armstrong will be getting their first collegiate experience against two great teams. This will be a test to see how big the stage is for them.
Bethel: Madison Hart is the top scorer at 16.0 ppg. Alyia Lee and Kylie Reynolds have both scored 19 points in games this season.
Campbellsville: Kaitlynn Wilkswas named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and the NCCAA Player of the Year in 2022-23. Wilks and Courtney Pritchett were named NAIA and NCCAA All-Americans last season. Wilks averaged 15.8 ppg while also averaging 5.6 rpg. Pritchett was the second leading scorer in the 2022-23 season with 10.1 ppg and 4.6 rpg.
