Track Squads Head to Morehouse Relays
SMYRNA, Ga. - Fisk University head Track & Field coach Marcelle Scales is a true optimist. In his second year at the North Nashville university, he has set the bar high. This weekend, he is excited to see how the hard work that his teams have endured has paid off, when he takes his teams to the Morehouse Relays in Smyrna, Georgia.
"We are just looking to compete," said Scales. "This meet will give us a barometer for where we are. I have a lot of freshmen and for some, this is their first collegiate meet. They will get to see firsthand where they are. They have worked hard. I anticipate some jitters and some great performances."
The women's team returns junior Daisjah Ball, who will bring three years of experience to the track. Fisk shot put record holder Jackie Bownes will not compete this weekend, which gives freshman Symora Prince a chance to show her wares. The team is also comprised of three women's basketball players: long jumper Ari Branch, and middle-distance runners Tai Lewis and Kennedi Wagner.
On the men's side, middle-distance runner A'sah Glenn will lead several promising freshmen, including sprinter Chris Washington and thrower Jerome Malone. With a mix of returning talent and eager newcomers, Coach Scales is optimistic that the team will lay a strong foundation for the outdoor season and gain valuable experience at the Morehouse Relays.
