Fisk Volleyball to Scrimmage This Saturday
Veteran Leadership and Fresh Faces Energize the Bulldogs
NASHVILLE (August 8, 2025) - Riding the momentum of back-to-back seasons with more than 20 wins, Head Coach Jessica Enderle enters this year's scrimmage with high expectations and renewed enthusiasm. This Saturday, fans will witness both the well-established stars and the promising newcomers take the court, embodying the competitive spirit that has become the hallmark of Fisk University Volleyball.
"We lost some key players from last year, so we need to use this preseason to see what we have," said Enderle. "We had a pretty good spring, so I want to see what we have now. I am optimistic about this group."
Spotlight on Key Players
Among the returning talent, Junior Reagan Jones stands out as an All-American whose dynamic playmaking continues to set the standard for excellence. Her versatility and presence will be central to the Bulldogs' attack this season.
On the defensive end, senior Nialah Gupton will anchor the back row, bringing experience and poise to the court. Her leadership in high-pressure situations is expected to inspire her teammates and fortify the team's defensive strategies.
Adding to the excitement, 2023 Conference Freshman of the Year Nephthys Re returns to the lineup after missing the previous season due to injury. Her resilience and determination have been evident throughout the preseason, and fans will be eager to see her impact as she reclaims her place on the court.
New Players to Watch
This year's roster expansion features eight newcomers: three transfers and five freshmen. Transfers from NCAA Division 1 South Carolina State University include Kaia Barnett, who will enhance the setter rotation options, and Trinity Stevenson, who will compliment Gupton defensively. Florida A&M transfer Shelby Chamblin adds further experience.
Among the freshmen, Paige Browning (Hillsboro High School) and Niamiah Taylor (Ensworth High School) share a unique connection; both hail from Nashville and come from Fisk legacy families. Browning's mother Tiessa Browning and Taylor's parents Robert and Adjoa Taylor are esteemed Fisk alumni, with Taylor's sister Naomi graduating recently.
Freshmen Jayla Bond (6'3") and Chennille McClellan (5'11") will compete for the middle position previously held by Sydney Willis. Morgan Walters (5'11") will learn from some experienced outside hitters.
The team aims to achieve significant success this season, including qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament.
What to Expect at the Scrimmage
Saturday's scrimmage will showcase not only the established veterans but also the next wave of Bulldog talent. It's an opportunity for returning players to reaffirm their roles and for newcomers to demonstrate their readiness to contribute. With Coach Enderle at the helm, blending proven strategies with fresh energy, the team is poised for an exhilarating season ahead.
