Volleyball Takes on Vanderbilt in Afternoon Exhibition
Fisk becomes Vandy's first opponent since 1980.
NASHVILLE (August 13, 2025) – After competing in exhibition matches on Monday at Lindsey Wilson University, the Fisk University Volleyball Team is gearing up for an exciting challenge this Friday as they face off against Vanderbilt University. Vanderbilt's return to the court, fielding a team for the first time since 1980, marks a milestone moment in collegiate volleyball. Although the match is an exhibition, it carries historic weight for both programs, and the Lady Bulldogs are eager to pit their skills against an NCAA Division I opponent.
"We are excited to play them, and be their first opponent in a long time," said senior libero Nialah Gupton. "We won the first set last year against TSU, which gave us confidence during the season. Playing against a D1 program is always good so we can see where we are."
Fisk steps onto the court led by outstanding athletes Reagan Jones and Gupton, both recognized for their exemplary leadership and athletic excellence. Jones and Gupton are joined by promising freshmen Paige Browning and Niamiah Taylor, all hailing from the Midstate, adding depth to a dynamic squad eager to test their mettle. The match begins at 3:00 p.m. (CST). This will also be the first time a volleyball match has been held at Vanderbilt's Memorial Gymnasium. Get ready for a thrilling afternoon as two spirited teams meet in a game steeped in excitement and anticipation.
