Balanced Attack Propels Volleyball to Opening Season Wins
FT. WAYNE, IN. (August 22, 2025) - The Fisk University Lady Bulldog Volleyball Team wasted no time announcing their presence, starting the season with two four-set victories at the ONSET Tournament in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
In the opening match against Northwest Ohio University, Fisk dropped the first set, but rallied the rest of the way, dominating the middle two sets. Nialah Gupton finished the match off with a service ace. Against Bethel University, the Lady Bulldogs won the split the first two sets, then held on for the win. Freshman Paige Browning was outstanding, in only her second colligate match. The Nashville native had nine kills, and five blocks. She scored the final two points in the deuce format.
All-American standout Reagan Jones powered a balanced attack, leading the team with an impressive 22 kills over the weekend. Setting the pace from the court's center, Kaia Barnett and Nebthet Re orchestrated the offense with skill and vision, combining for 77 assists—Barnett with 47 and Re with 30. On defense, Nialah Gupton anchored the back row, sweeping up 39 digs to keep rallies alive and frustrate opponents.
Jones, Shelby Chamblin, and Laila Esters showed off their versatility by recording double-doubles. With a strong start and dynamic performance across the roster, Fisk's volleyball squad is poised for a season defined by teamwork, determination, and leadership on both ends of the court.
