LEBANON, Tenn. (August 26, 2025) - After a promising start to the season, the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs Volleyball Team is preparing to turn the tide and reclaim their momentum as they head into a challenging tri match in Lebanon. Today, Fisk (2-2) will face off against Bryan College and the host, Cumberland University, marking the first leg of a demanding schedule that will see them play six matches in just five days.
Seeking a Return to Form
The Lady Bulldogs burst onto the scene at the ONSET Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana, opening their season with a pair of impressive four-set victories. In their debut match against Northwest Ohio University, Fisk rebounded from a first-set loss to dominate the middle two sets and close out the win—punctuated by Nialah Gupton's decisive service ace. Their subsequent win over Bethel University showcased the composure of freshman standout Paige Browning, who delivered nine kills, five blocks, and the final two points in a gritty deuce-set finish.
However, the euphoria of an undefeated start faded as the Lady Bulldogs stumbled in their next two outings. The team is determined to regroup and rediscover the synergy and resilience that defined their opening games.
Key Performers Driving the Bulldogs
All-American Reagan Jones has been an offensive powerhouse, tallying 34 kills over the season's opening weekend and providing crucial leadership on the court. The setting duo of Kaia Barnett and Nebthet Re has orchestrated the attack with precision and creativity, combining for 125 assists thus far. Defensively, Nialah Gupton has anchored the backcourt, notching 58 digs to keep rallies alive and frustrate opposing hitters.
Jones, Chamblin, and Laila Esters have each recorded early-season double-doubles, underscoring the team's depth and versatility. With contributions coming from every rotation, Fisk has the tools to rebound quickly and mount a competitive surge.
The Challenge Ahead
The tri match in Lebanon is more than just an opportunity to get back in the win column—it signals the onset of a taxing stretch that will test the Lady Bulldogs' endurance, focus, and teamwork. Six games in five days is a formidable gauntlet, demanding consistency and resilience from every athlete.
With renewed determination, Fisk will be looking to their seasoned leaders in Jones, La'Niyah Lumpkin, and Gupton and the fresh energy of their newcomers, to set the tone. Whether reclaiming their early momentum or weathering the adversity of a grueling week, the Lady Bulldogs remain committed to the pursuit of excellence and the relentless spirit that has defined their season so far.
As the whistle blows in Lebanon, all eyes will be on Fisk to see how they respond to adversity, rally together, and chase victory once more.
