SALEM, Ore. - The Fisk University Lady Bulldog Volleyball Team is making history as they head to Oregon for their first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance. They are set to face No. 5-ranked Corban University in Salem, Oregon. This marks a significant milestone for the program, following their automatic berth out of the Historical Black College and University Athletic Conference (HBCUAC). Led by HBCUAC Player of the Year Shelby Chamblin, who earned 12 HBCUAC Player of the Week honors and tallied 333 kills this season, the Bulldogs bring a balanced attack to Oregon. Last year's All-American Reagan Jones has been a solid compliment to Chamblin. Setting up the attackers are Kaia Barnett, who has tallied over 1500 assists for her career and Nephet Re who has had over 1,000 assists in two years.
The Lady Bulldog carry a solid defensive to the matchup. Senior libero Nialah Gupton anchors the backcourt and leads the team in service aces, while middle blockers Laila Esters, La'Niyah Lumpkin, and Delaney Farver contribute at the net offensively and defensively. Freshmen Chenille McCleland and Jayla Bond hve contributed as of late, making the future bright for Fisk.
The host Corban University has made it to the NAIA Tournament finals nine consecutive years. The Warriors will be looking to push their undefeated streak at home to 24 including a seven in Opening Round matchups.
The Lady Bulldogs' historic run along with along with Corban's dominance in the post-season makes this an interesting matchup. You can catch all the action on the Urban Edge Network.
