Freshmen Lead Lady Bulldogs to Landmark 20th Win
Freshmen Morgan Walters and Classmates Propel Fisk Volleyball to Victory
Freshman Standouts Power Fisk University Volleyball
NASHVILLE (October 10, 2025) - On Thursday evening, the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs showcased their depth and young talent by sweeping Oakwood University in straight sets. The decisive win (25-12, 25-9, and 25-19) marked the team's 20th victory of the season, bringing their record to an impressive 20-5 overall and 6-0 in the HBCU Athletic Conference. This achievement also highlights the program's consistency, with at least 20 wins in each of the past three seasons.
Walters Shines in Attack
Freshman Morgan Walters led the way for the Lady Bulldogs, delivering a standout performance with eight kills, the most of any attacker in the match. Walters' offensive prowess set the tone early and energized her teammates throughout the contest.
Freshmen Make Significant Impact
Fisk head coach Jessica Enderle gave all her players court time during the match, with her freshman class stepping up in a big way. Four of the five freshmen combined for a remarkable .480 hitting percentage, contributing 18 of the team's 39 total kills. This efficiency and production from first-year players demonstrates the bright future ahead for the program.
Besides Walters' eight kills, Jayla Bond, and Chennille McCleland both had four apiece, with Niamiah Taylor getting two. Bond and McCleland both swung at a .667 hitting percentage.
Vets Support Youth Movement
With the grueling schedule this season, it was a great time to give the nucleus of the team some much needed rest before the playoffs. Still juniors Shelby Chamblin and Reagan Jones both had six kills, while Setters Nebthet Re (18) and Kaia Barnett (15) combined for 33 assists. Nialah Gupton held down the backline with 13 digs, and Re had ten to give her a double-double.
Setback for Browning
Despite the victory, the team faced adversity when freshman Paige Browning, who had been earning significant minutes, suffered a lower body injury in the opening set. Her absence was felt, but the Lady Bulldogs rallied and maintained their momentum, with the remaining freshmen stepping into expanded roles.
Looking Ahead
With this win, the Lady Bulldogs remain undefeated in conference play and continue to build on their strong season. The contributions from Walters and her fellow freshmen signal a new wave of talent, that will support the veterans to be one off the keys for Fisk University Volleyball as they pursue further success this year and beyond.
NEXT UP: The Lady Bulldogs will be back at home for three games next weekend, starting with a HBCUAC East Division matchup against Stillman on Friday, and a tri match on Saturday against Talladega and Cumberland.
